I've anticipated this movie since the day it was announced. Although I've waited a while to see it, I've finally did so. Silver Linings, you may all know what the movie is about, hell, some you may even relate to it. A middle class family of 4; Mother father brother brother; Mother Father brother sister. It doesn't matter. We all grew up from somewhere some place that we can call home. For Patrick (Bradley Cooper) his home was a stereotypical phillidelphia family. The mother who is a classic stay at home mother cleaning and cooking. The father Pat Sr. (Robert De Niro) an older man who dedicates his life to gambling on Football with his best bud. Patrick was a normal guy, young around 25-30, Married or at least was. His heart was broken, just like any other man and a some-what out of control anger problem. We all have been there and he's just another guy with the same problem, maybe not to his extent.
He starts off in a mental Institution. Doctors therapy, restraining orders. It goes on and on for this guy. His wife or so he believes they're still together a simple woman which whom we don't see except for in flash backs. Is seen by Patrick in an awing fashion. He simply loves this woman and will do anything for her to come back. How he ends up in this situation is typical. Wife caught cheating, beats the shit out of him and goes to court yada yada. He's finally let out 8 months he's back to where he started, with no job, no house, alone. His family supports him to their finest. We all know what he wants. He wants something more, he wants to be found, recognized, and most of all loved. Who doesn't want those things? am i right!?!?
He thinks there's only one way get in shape and live by his motto and New York's word "Excelsior" meaning "Ever Upward". It means that no matter what he may do everything will go upward for him, there's no going back, no crumbling down to what he has accomplished so far. After returning home he meets back up with friends and family, and even a new person he's never seen before Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) she as well a crazy woman with the same problem, medication, husbands dead, a complete slut just to get over her husbands death. Tiffany helps Patrick with being able to send letters to Nikki (His ex wife) or so she makes him believe. In return that he dance in a tournament hosted once a year with professional dancers. Through the dancing he's able to gain a type of self satisfaction that his letter is going through to Nikki.
To Pat Tiffany is nothing and is a way for him to get to Nikki. With his father just about to lose everything in a simple bet of the eagles going to the playoffs and Him dancing a score of 5 or better it seemed meer impossible. By the end pat has lost it all and only has one thing to live for and that's to get back with Nikki. With the first half of the bet done he must score a 5.0 he notices Nikki at the table from the stage. They dance and dance they score over a 5. He's done it, he's happy for once he's happy and just then realizes. Life's a game of mentality love and composure. Have all 3 and you're well on your way. He recognizes Nikki didn't love him, not like some one else did at least. Tiffany, yes Tiffany the girl that once meant nothing to him is now his realization that through all the dance lessons, through the letter that had supposivly had been Nikki. It had been Tiffany. As he goes tot alk to Nikki, Tiffany stands in complete shock with tears and emotions flying about. She runs off in anger, well not for long. Pat finnaly catches buck up with her. Supprising right? Yea not so much we all saw it coming. As they come together Pat pleads to have knew about the later being false and that Pat had been wrong the entire time. Love doesn't only happen once and that others will come. Field of dreams reference yeah yeah... But yes Pat out of all people a once lost man who had no idea that he'd make it this far finally opened up and let her in.
Tremendous story and almost everybody deserves to see this movie. Whether you like love movies or emotional movies or even scary ones this won't bore you. It was great, wella cted acted and dam, even leaves me to believe that just out there is somebody who can earn my love just like tiffany earned pat's love.
